During the week of 30 November to 6 December, the number of people testing positive for COVID-19 has slightly increased to 3,797 cases, compared to 3,565 cases during the previous week (+7%), while the number of identified contacts has slightly decreased and is at 10,708 (-36%).
The average age of those diagnosed as COVID-19 positive has increased from 38.8 to 40.2 years.
The number of PCR tests performed during the week of 30 November to 6 December was 69,959 compared to 69,558 in the previous week.
As of 6 December, the number of active infections was 8,324 (compared to 8,453 on 29.11.), while the number of people healed increased from 25,901 to 29,792. During the week in question, there were 38 new deaths related to COVID-19, compared to 50 the previous week. The average age of the deceased is 83 years.
For the week of 30 November to 6 December, 160 hospitalisations in normal care and 41 hospitalisations in intensive care of COVID patients were confirmed, compared to 176 and 43 respectively the previous week.
The effective reproduction rate (R) went from 0.97 to 1.02 while the positivity rate on the tests carried out was 5.43%, against 5.13% the previous week (average of the week).
The 7-day incidence rate is 606 cases per 100,000 residents, respectively 1,181 cases per 100,000 inhabitants over the course of 14 days. Note that for the week of 23 November, the incidence rate was 569 cases per 100.000 inhabitants over 7 days.
With the exception of the age group of 0-14 years, the incidence rate has slightly increased in all other age groups during the last week, and consequently in the general population. At this stage, the incidence in all age groups is very similar, with the exception of the 10-14 age group and the 60-74 age group which have a lower incidence.
Quarantine and isolation
For the week from 30 November to 6 December, 7,412 people were in isolation (-3%) and 12,178 in quarantine (-3% compared to the previous week).
Contamination
The rate of contamination for which the source is not clearly attributable remains high at 38.9%.
According to the analysis carried out over two full days (30.11 and 1.12) and covering 1,141 cases, the family circle remains the most frequent source (35.3%) of COVID-19 infections.
Waste water monitoring in Luxembourg as part of SARS-CoV-2
The latest CORONASTEP report drawn up by the LIST (Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology), indicates that during the week of 30 November to 6 December, SARS-CoV-2 flows in wastewater remain high. However, the latest data collected, particularly at the end of the week in question, confirmed the downward trend observed in previous weeks. This trend will have to be confirmed in the coming days or weeks.
