Vigilance orange: heavy rain warning for Wednesday 9th October

The bad weather risk assessment unit (CERI), which met this afternoon to assess the weather situation, has issued a heavy rain warning which could affect the whole of the country from 6 am on Wednesday morning.

Continuous rain is expected over 24 hours, with accumulations of between 40 and 60 litres/m2 (or even more locally), with maximum intensity forecast from midday Wednesday and overnight into Thursday, which could lead to flooding. AGE's flood forecasting service is monitoring the situation. There is a risk of flooding from Wednesday evening. A flood alert is highly likely to be activated.

The intensity of the rainfall will diminish early on Thursday morning.

Road traffic is likely to be disrupted in the areas affected, and motorists are asked to adapt their driving and remain vigilant. The authorities are warning the public to be vigilant and to continually monitor the weather forecasts on the www.meteolux.lu website.

The CERI will meet again at the end of the afternoon.
