Official visit of Xavier Bettel to the Republic of Slovenia

The Prime Minister, Minister of State, Xavier Bettel, made an official visit to Ljubljana in Slovenia on 22 February 2023. In this context, he met the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Robert Golob. During this meeting, the two counterparts reaffirmed their desire to deepen bilateral relations between Luxembourg and Slovenia, particularly in the economic field. In particular, they highlighted possible cooperation in the field of European quantum communication infrastructure, in particular with regard to satellites, as well as cooperation between the Luxembourg Wood Cluster and the Slovenian Industry Wood Cluster.

Current issues at EU level were also on the agenda. Luxembourg and Slovenia share the view that the EU must continue to play its role in countering protectionist reflexes around the world, while preserving the fundamental principles of the single market, which is at the heart of the EU's economic resilience and open strategic autonomy. Xavier Bettel also welcomed Slovenia's constructive role in the Western Balkans.

The official meeting was followed by a press conference and a lunch hosted by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia.

Xavier Bettel also met with the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar. The Prime Minister and the President discussed their commitment to shared values such as respect for the rule of law, gender equality and the fundamental rights of LGBTQI+ people.

The visit concluded with a meeting between the Prime Minister and the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia, Urška Klakočar Zupančič, and a final short meeting between the Luxembourg delegation and the members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
