Working visit to Luxembourg by Mark Rutte, Secretary General of NATO
The Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), Mark Rutte, is paying a working visit to Luxembourg on 2 September 2025.
Mark Rutte is welcomed by Prime Minister Luc Frieden at the Ministry of State. After the national anthems are played, Mark Rutte and Luc Frieden hold a one-on-one meeting, followed by a working meeting attended by Minister of Defence Yuriko Backes. Discussions focus on major current issues in the international security environment, with particular emphasis on support for Ukraine, strengthening NATO capabilities and Luxembourg's contribution to the Alliance's collective deterrence and defence efforts.
The NATO Secretary General, Prime Minister Luc Frieden and Minister of defence Yuriko Backes had the opportunity to continue their discussions at Senningen Castle during a working lunch hosted by the Luxembourg Prime Minister in honour of the NATO Secretary General.
Mark Rutte is received in audience by H.R.H. the Grand Duke at the Grand Ducal Palace and also has the opportunity to meet with the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Claude Wiseler.
Mark Rutte and Minister of Defence Yuriko Backes also visit the SES headquarters in Betzdorf, where they meet with SES CEO Adel Al Saleh and LuxGovSat Director Patrick Biewer.
The Secretary General's visit to Luxembourg ends with a visit to the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) in Capellen. Mark Rutte is welcomed by Director General Stacy Cummings for a tour of the premises, followed by a presentation of the agency's activities and a working meeting.
