Visit of the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, to Luxembourg
At the invitation of Their Royal Highnesses the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess, the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, accompanied by his daughter, Laura Mattarella, is paying an official visit to Luxembourg on 10 and 11 June 2025. He is joined by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic, Edmondo Cirielli.
On Tuesday, 10 June, at 4.30 pm, the Italian Head of State and his delegation are officially welcomed by Their Royal Highnesses on the forecourt of the Grand Ducal Palace. The ceremony includes military honours, the playing of the national anthems, a review of the guard of honour, and the presentation of the Luxembourgish and Italian authorities.
Following the ceremony, President Mattarella, Laura Mattarella and the Grand Ducal couple proceed to the Grand Ducal Palace for a meeting.
In the evening, Their Royal Highnesses the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess host a gala dinner in honour of the President of the Italian Republic. Their Royal Highnesses the Hereditary Grand Duke and Hereditary Grand Duchess also attend, bringing the first day of the visit to a close.
On Wednesday, 11 June, the official programme includes a meeting with the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Claude Wiseler, at the Chamber of Deputies.
President Mattarella is then received by Prime Minister Luc Frieden at the Hôtel Saint-Maximin for an exchange of views, with discussions focusing primarily on major European issues.
As part of his visit, the President of the Italian Republic also meets with members of the Italian community residing in the Grand Duchy, in the presence of His Royal Highness the Grand Duke.
