Affordable housing: registration for RENLA now available online via MyGuichet.lu
The Ministry of Housing and Spatial Planning announces that registration in the National Register of Affordable Housing (RENLA) is now available online via the MyGuichet.lu platform. This launch marks an important step forward for prospective tenants seeking affordable housing in Luxembourg, offering a simplified, centralised process accessible at any time.
A single registration to access affordable rental housing
With RENLA, a single registration is now sufficient to be considered at national level. Applicants no longer need to submit multiple applications to different social housing providers, streamlining administrative procedures.
- For new registrations, the process is completed entirely online: prospective tenants submit their application via MyGuichet.lu and select the social housing provider responsible for processing and managing their application.
- For those already registered, no further action is required: existing applications are already included in RENLA and will continue to be handled by the designated social housing provider.
Better targeted access to affordable housing
RENLA is a centralised national register of individuals residing in Luxembourg who are seeking affordable rental housing. Social housing providers can access applications matching the characteristics of the dwellings available in their housing stock (household size, type of dwelling, etc.). Based on their allocation criteria and availability, they can offer suitable housing more quickly and in a more targeted way.
"With RENLA, we now have, for the first time, a comprehensive overview of affordable housing needs in Luxembourg. Beyond demand, it also provides greater visibility on the number of available dwellings, their size and availability. This helps us better understand and analyse the situation at national level. With a single online registration, procedures are simplified, making access to housing easier and fairer, and increasing everyone’s chances of finding accommodation suited to their situation.", said Claude Meisch, Minister of Housing and Spatial Planning.
Simplified support for applicants
RENLA represents a major step forward in administrative simplification. By centralising all applications within a single register, it removes the need for multiple, often repetitive procedures, which could be a source of complexity and uncertainty for prospective tenants. At the same time, RENLA improves the overall efficiency of the system. It enables faster matching between available housing and household needs while reducing processing times and optimising case management. It also saves time for social housing providers by facilitating the monitoring and processing of applications.
A tool supporting housing policy
Beyond managing applications, RENLA is a strategic tool for better understanding housing needs in Luxembourg. It provides an overview of the stock of affordable housing, particularly in terms of type, geographical distribution and occupancy rates.
This data supports better anticipation of future needs and helps develop housing solutions tailored to population trends.
Current situation (15 April 2026)
As of 15 April 2026, the main indicators are as follows:
- Approximately 8,900 prospective tenant applications registered.
- The current number of dwellings stands at around 3,500 units. The registration of all dwellings will be completed in the coming weeks; once finalised, the total will reach approximately 4,300. This figure remains subject to change, as units may be added or removed over time.
Given the continuous evolution of applications, these figures should be regarded as indicative.
