Working Visit of François Bausch to the United States

From 13 to 17 March 2023, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence and Minister for Mobility and Public Works, François Bausch, is paying a working visit to Washington DC in the United States of America. 

During the visit in Washington, Deputy Prime Minister Bausch will hold a bilateral meeting with Pete Buttigieg, U.S. Secretary of Transportation. The two ministers will share views on a wide array of issues: e-mobility, road safety and the crucial link between transport and climate change. Another topic that will be discussed during the meeting will be the transport infrastructure investment and especially in the passenger and freight rail.

François Bausch will participate at the Transforming Transportation 2023 conference under the theme "Accelerating toward Green and Inclusive Mobility" co-organized by the World Bank and World Resources Institute (WRI) on March 15. As a speaker at the plenary 4 – Resilient Transport for Uncertain Times: Navigating Climate Change, Conflict, and Supply Chain Disruptions, the minister will share his perspectives on the planning, designing and implementing of resilient infrastructure and transport services in unstable circumstances. The cost of building and enhancing transport, mobility, and logistic systems for developing countries and how the global community can support this shift, will also be part of the discussion during the panel.

On March 16, François Bausch will also participate in a panel entitled "Advancing the Active Mobility Fund" at the World Resources Institute offices. The aim of the event is to bring together leading mobility practitioners and finance experts to discuss and share their insights on the challenges and opportunities associated with active mobility investments. It will be an opportunity for Minister Bausch to share his insights about the international investment in road infrastructure.

Furthermore, another bilateral meeting will take place with Guangzhe Chen, the Vice President for Infrastructure at the World Bank. The discussion will focus on transport decarbonisation.

In his capacity as Minister of Defence, François Bausch will have a bilateral meeting with Dr. Colin Kahl, Under Secretary of Defence for Policy of the Department of Defence. The topics to be discussed at this meeting include NATO and the Vilnius Summit in July 2023, cyber defence, space as well as the impact of climate change on security. François Bausch will also meet Bonnie Jenkins, Undersecretary for Arms Control and International Security of the U.S. Department of State. This discussion will be focused on space issues and emerging technologies
