New COVID-19 cases - Weekly review: 24 - 30 August

During the week of 24 to 30 August, the number of residents testing positive for COVID-19 remains practically unchanged with 288 people compared to 292 the previous week. ​ On the other hand, the number of identified contacts increased significantly, going from 1,569 to 2,195 contacts, an increase of 52%, mainly due to people returning from vacation.  

As of 30 August, the number of active infections was 570 (compared to 482 as of 23/08), while the number of people healed increased from 5.784 to 5.984. Hospital capacity was less strained than in the previous week and no new deaths related to COVID-19 are to be deplored.

The effective reproduction rate (R) went from 1.080 to 1.090 while the positivity rate on the tests carried out was stable with 0.76% against 0.74% (average for the week).

The 7-day incidence rate is 46 per 100,000 residents. ​

During the week of 24 to 30 August, the average age of those diagnosed as COVID-19 positive is 35 years, and thus remains stable compared to previous weeks.

Quarantine surveillance: 

For the week of 24 to 30 August, 1,487 people were in quarantine and 543 in isolation.

Sources of contamination:

Regarding the source of infections, the proportion of cases linked to holidays increases further from 47% to 52%. ​ Of the 288 positive cases for the week of 24 to 30 August, 150 are indeed linked to travel abroad. The Ministry of Health reiterates the importance of respecting health instructions even during holidays abroad. It is an essential part of the fight against the spread of the virus. 

In addition, 64 cases (22%) probably were transmitted within families and 6 cases (2%) were related to family or friends' parties. 8 cases are from 2 previously identified active clusters (business, collective housing).
