Luxembourg resumes vaccination with AstraZeneca

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) presented on Thursday, 18 March, the results of the Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee's (PRAC) analyses on a number of blood problems in people who have recently been vaccinated with AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine.

According to the EMA, AstraZeneca's vaccine is safe and effective in preventing hospitalisations and deaths due to COVID-19. Based on the evaluation of the data by the EMA, the benefits of AZ's vaccine largely outweigh the risks of side effects.

Luxembourg will therefore resume vaccination with the AZ vaccine from Friday 19 March onwards, as part of the vaccination campaign.

The government takes vaccine safety very seriously. All vaccines are closely monitored. The vaccination campaign saves lives by protecting as quickly as possible the most vulnerable from the consequences of COVID-19 and paves the way for a successful containment of the pandemic.
