Vaccination campaign for secondary school students from 18 October 2021

Since the beginning of the health crisis, the government's efforts to combat the SARS-CoV-2 virus have been guided by the objectives of guaranteeing a maximum number of face-to-face classes for students and ensuring maximum safety for the entire school community and families.

The best way to stop the virus today is vaccination

Vaccination is currently the most effective tool for implementing this strategy. Teachers have been vaccinated in large numbers since they were offered the opportunity: almost 90% have received a full vaccination schedule to date.

Unlike children under the age of 12, secondary school students can be vaccinated in the same way as adults and thus benefit from good protection against the virus, while regaining the freedom to lead their much-needed social lives.

At present, about 55% of secondary school students are fully vaccinated. Although this is an encouraging percentage, it's still not enough to completely stop the spread of the virus.

Vaccination organised in collaboration with secondary schools

The Ministry of Health, the High Commission for National Protection and the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth are launching a vaccination campaign for young people in collaboration with secondary schools.

In order to facilitate their access to vaccination, young people will have the opportunity to get vaccinated during school time from 18 to 29 October 2021. The second injection will take place under the same conditions four weeks later, from 15 to 29 November 2021.

Some secondary schools will organise buses to transport students from the school building to the vaccination centre. For schools located further away from the vaccination centres, mobile teams will travel to the site.

Vaccination is subject to parental consent for underage students and consent for those aged 18 or older.

From 7 October, secondary schools will provide their students with a letter for parents, an explanatory leaflet, and a document containing parental authorisation/consent and questions about the student's health.

Vaccination is essential to protect the health of all, young and old, and to finally get out of the health crisis.
