Susanne Raab, Minister for Women and Integration in the Federal Chancellery, invited her European counterparts to exchange best practices in their respective countries in terms of the reception and integration of people fleeing Ukraine.

During a first round table discussion, Corinne Cahen highlighted the introduction of the one-stop shop by the Luxembourg government, a practice that has been replicated in a number of other countries. In addition, she pointed to the new public European schools which, in order to counter the particular linguistic situation in Luxembourg, have made it possible to provide children with a rapid education.

Finally, she took the opportunity to underline the excellent collaboration between the government, the municipalities and civil society, which allowed a rapid response to the many challenges that arose with the arrival of the Ukrainian refugees.

The conference continued after a joint lunch. In the second round of discussions, the ministers exchanged views on the greatest challenges and relevant topics of integration policy for the future.

In this respect, Corinne Cahen emphasised that the term 'living together' better corresponds to the Luxembourg government's policy, which focuses on a reciprocal approach where all citizens actively participate in the organisation and development of life in their community of residence. She mentioned the implementation of the "Pakt vum Zesummeliewen" which focuses on citizen participation and the new electoral law allowing all residents, both European and from third countries, to register to vote in local elections as another way to get actively involved in the municipalities.

Finally, she mentioned a new orientation platform that is about to be launched by the Ministry of Family Affairs, Integration and the Greater Region. This platform will allow people arriving in Luxembourg to find answers to all sorts of administrative, organisational or everyday life questions in Luxembourg. It should also serve as a platform for participating in training and information sessions via virtual training rooms.

The participants will meet in Bucharest, Romania, at the beginning of September to reflect on common responses to the challenges of Ukrainian refugees.
