New vaccines against COVID-19 and reopening of the Victor Hugo vaccination centre

New vaccines against COVID-19

During the week of 5 September, the Luxembourg Government is expecting the delivery of adapted vaccines from the pharmaceutical groups Pfizer and Moderna. A shipment of 43,200 doses of Pfizer's "Comirnaty Original/Omicron BA.1" vaccine and 42,600 doses of Moderna's "Spikevax Bivalent Original/Omicron BA.1" vaccine is expected. These so-called "bivalent" vaccines are supposed to offer protection against the original Sars-CoV-2 virus and against the Omicron variant.

Medical offices and pharmacies participating in the vaccination campaign will be able to start ordering the vaccine from the Health Directorate from Monday 5 September. The new vaccines will be available from 12 September in the "Impfbus", and from 13 September in the Victor Hugo vaccination centre. The roll-out of the vaccines to the first medical offices and pharmacies will start at the end of the week of 5 September after the new vaccines have arrived in Luxembourg.

Based on the recommendation of the High Council for Infectious Diseases (CSMI), the Luxembourg Government is currently inviting all people aged 60 years and over, as well as people with a risk factor for severe COVID-19, regardless of age, to receive a booster vaccination.

These adapted vaccines will be given only as a booster dose after a primary vaccination, and also as a second booster dose for people aged 60 years and over, as well as to people with a risk factor for severe COVID-19. Pfizer's vaccine will be available from the age of 12, and Moderna's from the age of 30.

Reopening of the Victor Hugo vaccination centre
