In May 2022, the Ministry of Family Affairs, Integration and the Greater Region and its partners launched the awareness campaign "I can vote". The aim is to inform non-Luxembourg residents of their right to vote in the municipal elections on 11 June 2023 and to make them aware of the need to register on the electoral rolls by 17 April 2023 at 5pm.
Due to the amendment of the electoral law in 2022, non-Luxembourg residents who have been resident in Luxembourg for less than five years also have the right to vote in the municipal elections.
In order to precisely follow the evolution of the registrations in the electoral rolls, the Ministry of Family Affairs, Integration and the Greater Region collaborates with the Government IT Centre (CTIE) to obtain statistics on the registrations broken down by certain individual characteristics and by municipality of residence.
With this press release, we are publishing these statistics, which reflect the situation on 31 January 2023.
The aim is to be able to identify those groups of residents where registration rates remain low and where our information and awareness-raising efforts need to be strengthened by offering them incentives to participate in this important democratic moment, which is accessible to all.
An updated version of these statistics, reflecting the situation on 28 February 2023, will be presented at a press conference in the presence of SYVICOL on 2 March 2023 at 9.30 am at the Bistrot de Bonnevoie (29, rue de Bonnevoie L-1260 Luxembourg).
