Prime Minister Frieden was honoured to be the first EU head of government to be received by Prime Minister Montenegro.

It was an opportunity for the two heads of government to discuss topical bilateral and European issues with a view to further strengthening the excellent relations between Portugal and Luxembourg.

‘The friendship between our peoples, the friendship between our countries, and our personal friendship, which precedes the one we have had since we became Prime Ministers, will enable us to strengthen the ties between our two countries,’ declared Prime Minister Frieden.

In their discussions, the prime ministers shared the ambition of strengthening the economic ties between their countries along the value chain and for the benefit of small and medium-sized businesses, particularly in the renewable energy and technological innovation sectors.

‘I also believe that we need to intensify our relations, including our economic relations, which will enable us to finance our social policies and the digital and ecological transitions,’ continued the Luxembourg Prime Minister.

During their exchange, the two heads of government also addressed the main issues currently under discussion at the European Council.

In a complex international context, they also stressed the importance of the European elections in preserving the unity of Europe and its values of stability, the rule of law and prosperity.
