Test of the public alert and information system 'LU-Alert'

On Monday 5 May 2025, the government will continue to implement its strategy for testing the public alert and information system 'LU-Alert' by conducting the monthly test of the siren network.

In addition, the cell broadcast (CB) alert channel will be tested at around 11 a.m. throughout Luxembourg. However, the alert sent via Cell Broadcast will only be received by mobile devices on which the reception of notifications for 'LU-Alert Test', which is disabled by default, has been expressly enabled as follows:

  • Apple: you must enable 'LU-Alert Test' in the notification settings (Settings → Notifications) under 'LU-Alert' at the bottom of the settings options;
  • Android: you must enable 'LU-Alert Test' in the settings under 'Security and emergency → Wireless emergency alerts'.

If you choose to receive the test alert sent via cell broadcast, please inform and warn those around you, as they may be alarmed when they receive the test alert on your mobile device, which, as indicated above, is accompanied by an audible alert.

As with previous tests, the test alert sent via cell broadcast will also be sent to the 'LU-Alert' mobile app and the website www.lu-alert.lu. As this is a test alert, you do not need to take any action or behave in any particular way.

The Ministry of Home Affairs would like to remind you that the cell broadcast alert channel is a highly intrusive alert channel. Alerts transmitted via cell broadcast take the form of priority notifications that appear on the screen of a mobile device even if it is in silent or locked mode, and are accompanied by an audible alert and vibration. After a few seconds, the audible signal stops automatically. Public authorities use this alert channel when the event that requires alerting or informing the public is likely to present a significant or imminent danger to the public and immediate action is expected of them.

Additional information and frequently asked questions are also available on the website www.lu-alert.lu.
