Orange alert: heavy rain warning from Monday evening to Tuesday morning

The Storm and Flood Risk Assessment Unit (CERI) met on Monday morning, 8 September, to assess the weather situation. Following this meeting, an orange alert for heavy rain will be issued. This will cover the entire country, with a focus on the south and east, from 10 p.m. tonight until 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

During this period, continuous rainfall is expected, with estimated accumulations of between 25 and 50 l/m2, locally reaching 70 to 80 l/m2. The peak intensity is expected during the night from Monday to Tuesday, with an increased risk of flooding, particularly along the Alzette and in areas bordering small rivers in the south and east of the country. The AGE flood forecasting service is closely monitoring the situation and plans to issue a yellow alert in the early afternoon.

The intensity of the rainfall is expected to decrease early on Tuesday morning.

The authorities are calling on citizens to be vigilant, particularly in camping areas located near rivers. It is recommended that you regularly check the weather forecast on the website www.meteolux.lu and consult the heavy rain hazard maps on www.map.geoportail.lu to see if your location is affected.

The CERI will meet again in the afternoon.
