Extreme heat and National Day: Provisional report from the Joint Operational Command Post (PCO-C)
In accordance with the new Government Plan for Severe Weather and Flooding, the Joint Operational Command Post (PCO-C) convened on Monday from 4:00 p.m. to midnight at the National Crisis Centre in Senningen. The interministerial operational cell brought together representatives from the Luxembourg Army, the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS), the Directorate of Health, the Grand Ducal Police, the City of Luxembourg, and the High Commission for National Protection (HCPN).
In collaboration with experts from the assessment cell (CERI), the PCO-C monitored the meteorological situation, its impacts, and possible developments. It also ensured the centralisation of information on human and material impacts, the identification of operational needs, and the coordination of inter-agency responses.
During the day on Monday, temperatures reached approximately 34°C. The persistence of nighttime temperatures above 20°C from Monday to Tuesday maintained a particularly high level of heat stress.
Operations and incidents update
Thanks to the reinforced mobilisation of emergency and rescue services, as well as the responsible behaviour of citizens who followed official recommendations, the number of interventions remained under control. No major heat-related incidents were reported.
In total, the CGDIS recorded around 300 interventions throughout Monday until midnight, while attendance at hospital emergency departments was slightly above average.
Authorities reiterate their call for vigilance and will continue to closely monitor developments. A further update will be issued if necessary.
