10th edition of the Global Conference on Criminal Finances and Cryptoassets at the European Convention Center Luxembourg

The Asset Management Office (Bureau de gestion des avoirs, "BGA") hosted the 10th edition of the Global Conference on Criminal Finances and Cryptoassets on 15 and 16 September 2026 at the European Convention Center Luxembourg.

In collaboration with the Basel Institute on Governance, Europol and UNODC as co-organisers, the conference brought together more than 450 practitioners and experts from 90 countries to combat the criminal exploitation of cryptoassets. Over the two days, more than 50 speakers shared their experiences, perspectives and practical solutions. With the maximum capacity for in-person attendance reached, the conference was also followed online by more than 2 000 people.

Although the criminal use of cryptoassets continues to grow, the cases presented at the conference showed that authorities and practitioners' methods and tools are evolving as well. The discussions also highlighted that strengthening transnational networks and developing common standards are cornerstones of an eșective response to the criminal use of cryptoassets.

Through this conference, the BGA is actively contributing to raising awareness and training authorities on the complexity of cryptoassets, as well as promoting best practices regarding seizures and confiscations.

Day 1 - 15 September

The first day of the conference was open to representatives from the public and private sector, with a particular focus on the collaboration of these two sectors, emerging risks and case studies. Two practical workshops were also held: the first examined common problems in suspicious transaction reporting involving cryptoassets, while the second focused on developing common baseline standards for blockchain intelligence.

Day 2 - 16 September

Approximately 300 representatives of public authorities, including law enforcement agencies, financial intelligence units, judicial and prosecution authorities, asset management oȚces and supervisory authorities, took part in this day, which was reserved exclusively for them.

Round table for asset management offices

Following the conference, the BGA, in collaboration with the Basel Institute on Governance, organised a Cryptoasset Management Roundtable on 17 September 2026 at the European Convention Center Luxembourg. The forum brought together around 50 experts in the detection, tracing and management of virtual assets. This exchange of good practices should also lead to the drafting of a practical guide.

At the same time, a round table bringing together around 40 professionals from 18 African countries, as well as a workshop attended by around 30 practitioners from Latin America, were held on the sidelines of the 10th edition of the Global Conference on Criminal Finances and Cryptoassets. Both events enabled participants to exchange views with their counterparts on typologies, case studies and practical approaches.
