Gilles Roth announces the first issuance of a sovereign bond natively based on blockchain technology

During his speech presenting the 2027 budget proposal, Finance Minister Gilles Roth announced the issuance by Luxembourg of a sovereign benchmark bond natively based on blockchain technology. Following the launch of a digital treasury certificate in 2025, this issuance -with a target amount of at least one billion euros and an anticipated maturity of 10 years- will mark a European first. Governed by Luxembourg law and denominated in euros, it will benefit from all the necessary market infrastructures to meet the expectations of institutional investors. Thanks to its integration into a regulated and proven environment, it is expected to be eligible as collateral in Eurosystem credit operations, thereby contributing to its liquidity and attractiveness. It will also be listed at the Luxembourg Stock Exchange. The exact issuance date will be determined based on investor feedback and market conditions.
