The Data4Gov initiative

Data4Gov

Introduction

One of the ambitions of the Ministry for Digitalisation is to move towards a data-driven public sector, i.e., public services that use data to better serve citizens and businesses. Indeed, data can help the state to better understand the needs and behaviours of citizens, which in turn enables them to improve the effectiveness of policies and provide more appropriate public services. In addition, data collection and analysis enrich the identification of emerging trends and challenges, enabling the state to make informed decisions.

In this context, it is essential to adopt a collaborative approach and involve the entire public sector. To this end, the Ministry for Digitalisation launched the first Data4Gov call for projects in 2023 to financially support and mentor data-centric public sector projects.

Objective

The aim of the Data4Gov call for projects is to support initiatives that will lead to a data-driven public sector or proactive government. Examples include:

  • data collection projects for the public sector,
  • or projects to improve the availability of data (to government departments, the general public, etc.).

Data-driven public sector projects are initiatives designed to optimise decision-making and the performance of the various government bodies by providing accessible, up-to-date and accurate data to officials and decision-makers.

Proactive government projects are initiatives aimed at improving the quality and efficiency of public services by anticipating citizens' needs. Rather than simply reacting to citizens' requests, the aim is to identify problems before they become critical and to implement solutions before citizens ask for them.
