One step closer towards the coverage of psychotherapy procedures

On 29 December 2022, the Government Council approved, by means of a written procedure, the preliminary draft Grand Ducal regulation introducing psychotherapy procedures into the nomenclature. The draft regulation provides for the creation of three psychotherapy acts on the basis of the detailed recommendation of the Nomenclature Commission in its "psychotherapy" composition.

The acts are:

  1. Introductory psychotherapy session (code: SP01)
  2. Supportive psychotherapy session (code: SP02)
  3. Extended supportive psychotherapy session (code: SP03)

In addition, the draft regulation provides for technical elements so that the procedures can be invoiced and subsequently reimbursed by the health insurance.

The draft regulation has been sent to the regulatory procedure and thus submitted for opinion to the Council of State and the professional chambers.

"The future entry into force of this regulation will mark a further step towards the reimbursement of psychotherapy. The insured need to be covered. They therefore expect the parties involved to ensure that this can be done as quickly as possible. I would like to thank the stakeholders in the Nomenclature Commission for their opinion, which served as the basis for this draft regulation," emphasised Claude Haagen, Minister of Social Security.
