Swimming is once again permitted on the beaches of Rommwiss and Burfelt

Cyanobacteria alert lifted

The Water management agency announces that following the proliferation of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) detected last week on the beaches of Rommwiss and Burfelt in the Lac de la Haute-Sûre ─ associated with the presence of high concentrations of toxins produced by these cyanobacteria ─ the situation has returned to normal. As a result, swimming and recreational and sporting activities are once again permitted at these areas.

Indeed, the drop in temperatures has led to a sharp decline in the biomass of cyanobacteria, and monitoring carried out by the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) has confirmed that the blooms have dissipated. This change in the situation therefore puts an end to the warning of toxic risks to public health linked to the presence of cyanobacteria blooms.

The current situation regarding the opening and closing of official bathing sites can be followed on the website of the Water management agency: www.waasser.lu.
