Joyeuse Entrée in the Éislek: TRH the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess visit Troisvierges
On Friday, TRH the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess continued their tour of the Joyeuses Entrées in Troisvierges, the second stop on their journey through Luxembourg's five regions following their accession to the throne. After a first visit to Esch-sur-Alzette, dedicated to the Minett region, this Joyeuse Entrée symbolically marked the Grand Ducal Couple's arrival in the Éislek and offered another valuable opportunity to meet, engage with and connect closely with the local population.
Centred on the themes of rural life and local traditions, the visit celebrated the identity of the Éislek, its rich heritage, and the commitment of its residents and the many people whose work contributes to the region's vitality and development.
A warm welcome in the heart of Troisvierges
Upon their arrival at Troisvierges Town Hall, TRH the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess were welcomed by the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Claude Wiseler; the Mayor of Troisvierges, Edy Mertens; and Martine Hansen, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture, Minister for Consumer Protection and Minister of Sport, representing the Government. Eric Thill, Minister for Culture and Minister Delegate for Tourism, also attended the event.
Around one hundred musicians from the municipalities belonging to the SICLER intermunicipal association accompanied the arrival of the Grand Ducal Couple with a musical performance.
Following the Mayor's welcome address and the signing of the municipality's Golden Book, TRH the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess greeted the public from the Town Hall balcony. On the forecourt, a choir of almost 90 children then performed "Kanner vun dëser Welt".
Meeting the local community and discovering the region's heritage
Accompanied by regional brass bands, the procession then made its way to Nicolas Adames Square. Along the route, the Grand Ducal Couple passed the statue of Nicolas Adames, the first Bishop of Luxembourg and a native of Troisvierges, as well as the Tony Bourg Regional Library, housed in his birthplace.
At Nicolas Adames Square, TRH the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess met older residents from the region, attended a musical performance, and spoke with children and members of the Scouts movement. At the cultural centre, pupils from Cycles 3 and 4 then introduced their municipality through a series of themed displays focusing on the villages, local history, cultural diversity and the rich network of local associations.
Rural life, traditions and regional cooperation
The visit then continued with a focus on the Éislek's rural heritage and traditional know-how. HRH the Grand Duke visited an exhibition of tractors and vintage agricultural machinery from two major private collections, while HRH the Grand Duchess was introduced to a collection of objects and equipment illustrating rural life in times gone by, kindly provided by the "A Schiewesch" Rural Museum in Binsfeld.
HRH the Grand Duke also visited an interactive exhibition dedicated to territorial cooperation in the Éislek and to the many joint initiatives supporting the region's development, particularly in the fields of the economy, youth and social affairs, nature and the environment, rural development, tourism and culture.
Meanwhile, HRH the Grand Duchess met with people actively involved in promoting intercultural living together within the municipality. She exchanged views with them on initiatives designed to foster dialogue, encourage encounters and strengthen cohesion between the different communities. At Nicolas Adames Square, she also discovered a selection of local culinary specialities reflecting the cultural diversity that enriches community life.
This second Joyeuse Entrée concluded in a warm and festive atmosphere, bringing TRH the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess together with local residents and the region's many committed stakeholders, and once again reflecting the Grand Ducal Couple's commitment to dialogue and close ties with the people of Luxembourg.
The next Joyeuse Entrée will take place on 2 October 2026 in the municipality of Wormeldange.
