On 22 May 2025, the University of Luxembourg celebrated the 10th anniversary of its Consumer Law Clinic, an innovative educational project that combines academic training with practical experience. On this occasion, Martine Hansen, Minister for Consumer Protection, praised the commitment and high-quality work of both students and faculty members.

Inspired by the model of American legal clinics, the Consumer Law Clinic has successfully adapted this concept to the Luxembourg context. It enables law students to engage with real-life cases by offering legal consultations to actual consumers. This immersive approach helps develop essential skills such as active listening, analysis, argumentation, and legal advice.

In her speech, the Minister expressed her appreciation for the work accomplished by the Law Clinic over the past decade. She also commended the dedication of Professor Poillot, the driving force behind the project, for building strong national and international networks that have contributed to the recognition of both the Consumer Law Clinic and the User Clinic.

"Training a lawyer is not just about teaching the law; it’s about teaching how to use it for the common good," the Minister remarked, highlighting the importance of a legal education grounded in reality and focused on the public interest.

The highlight of the celebration was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Directorate for Consumer Protection and the University of Luxembourg. This agreement marks a new step in the collaboration between the two institutions, with the aim of strengthening exchanges and joint projects in the service of civil society.

Over the past ten years, the Consumer Law Clinic has established itself as a key player in legal education in Luxembourg. Thanks to its innovative approach and the active involvement of students and faculty, it plays a vital role in bringing the law closer to the public.

Buoyed by this recognition, the Consumer Law Clinic intends to continue its development and to keep training committed, skilled, and community-oriented legal professionals.
