On 19 January 2023, the Ministry for Digitalisation invited government officials to its first "Simplify Day", a day entirely dedicated to administrative simplification, at the European Convention Center Luxembourg. This first edition focused on "Administrative simplification: initiatives, tools and better regulation".

Marc Hansen, Minister Delegate for Digitalisation, welcomed around 100 public officials to the event. In his speech, he emphasised the importance of administrative simplification in the context of digitalisation. "Digitalisation and simplification must go hand in hand in order to offer public services that correspond to citizens' needs." He referred in particular to the excellent 3rd place achieved by Luxembourg in the European Commission's eGovernment Benchmark 2022, as well as to the recommendations made by the OECD in the study on eGovernment in Luxembourg presented by Marc Hansen a few months ago. In particular, the OECD noted that the Ministry for Digitalisation has so far set the right course for the digitisation of public services. However, Minister Delegate stressed that there is still room for improvement. According to Marc Hansen, Simplify Day is an important event in moving the debate forward.
During the morning, government officials were able to discover and understand the different aspects of administrative simplification thanks to the interventions of foreign experts. Stéphan Giraud, from France's Interministerial Directorate for Public Transformation, shared his experience of using behavioural science to adapt public services. The added value and role of "better regulation" in administrative simplification was discussed by Daniel Trnka of the OECD's Regulatory Policy Division. Finally, Bruno Monteiro of the OECD's Observatory of Public Sector Innovation spoke about the added value and role of innovative approaches in administrative simplification.
Participants in the event had the opportunity to learn about and discuss the design methods used by public administrations and the goals they are pursuing through topics such as service quality improvement, change management or the development of digital administration.
In the afternoon, civil servants will take part in co-creative workshops where they will be invited to think about concrete adaptations and understand the challenges of administrative simplification in the context of transforming public administration.
